Guideline Industrie 4.0

Many mechanical and plant engineering companies are hesitant when it comes to implementing Industrie 4.0 technologies in their own companies. But the Industrie 4.0 solutions have the potential to establish new business models through digitalization and connecting products and production.

The challenge is to turn the visions of Industrie 4.0 into feasible development stages in order to ensure that their benefits for companies become tangible and measurable in monetary terms.

Making money with Industrie 4.0?

Industrie 4.0 in itself does not represent any value. Instead, the solutions of Industrie 4.0 serve as trailblazers of product innovation, product-related services and improved production processes. Industrie 4.0 can thus help both to reduce costs in production and to increase sales through products with added value.

From the Industrie 4.0 vision to reality

Many technologies for Industrie 4.0 solutions are already available today. The benefits of Industrie 4.0, however, can only be reaped if these technologies are combined in an intelligent manner. Many companies are unsure about what they need to do to identify and successfully combine Industrie 4.0 solutions. The Industrie 4.0 vision needs to be turned into reality.

Guidelines provide orientation

For this reason, VDMA has developed the “Guideline Industrie 4.0” in cooperation with the Department of Computer Integrated Design (DIK) at the TU Darmstadt, the wbk Institute of Production Science and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) to foster the implementation of Industrie 4.0 in SMEs. It is intended to assist SMEs in mechanical and plant engineering in developing their own Industrie 4.0 implementations and business models. The guideline is not a ready-made strategy for implementing Industrie 4.0 in a company, but rather shows approaches to developing individual strengths and competencies and supports companies on their journey from the vision of Industrie 4.0 to their own concepts and solutions.

The publication

VDMA members can order the German print version of the “Guideline Industrie 4.0” free of charge. Non-members pay a nominal fee of EUR 40 incl. VAT plus shipping costs.
The PDF versions are already available in German and English. Please contact Anita Siegenbruk.

“Train the Trainer” seminar

The employees responsible for the topic of Industrie 4.0 are coached in the “Train the Trainer” seminar. The seminar presents the methods and processes described in the guidelines and explains how strengths and competencies in the field of Industrie 4.0 can be identified and developed through internal workshops. This way, your company can start its journey from the vision of Industrie 4.0 to the development of its own concepts and solutions – with the assistance of your individual coach and the “Guideline Industrie 4.0 - Guiding principles for the implementation of Industrie 4.0 in small and medium sized businesses”.
The seminar is offered exclusively for VDMA members and is limited to a maximum of 15 participants. The registration fee is EUR 480 + 19% VAT.

If you are interested in participating please send an email to Anita Siegenbruk and you will be informed of any news.

Company-specific implementation support

VDMA’s Mechanical Engineering Institute also offers company-specific consultancy based on the “VDMA Guideline Industrie 4.0” in cooperation with two university institutes. It supports you in identifying and realizing your potential in the field of Industrie 4.0 yourself in a structured process. This is done on the basis of a workshop that builds on a competence analysis carried out in your company beforehand.
More information can be found in the flyer of the Mechanical Engineering Institute.
